Are you having a hard time figuring out what area of study you would like to enter post-secondary? Are you retired or looking at retirement? Do you have a skill you would like to share? We have something for you!
*Community Development Council of Quinte is looking for a volunteer driver to pick up and deliver Good Food Boxes to depots throughout Hastings and Prince Edward Counties. Volunteers will help load and unload boxes, deliver them to specified destinations and ensure they arrive in good condition. This position takes place twice a month, on the second and fourth Tuesday, from 7:30 a.m. until finished, typically by 4:30 p.m. Training is provided. Volunteers must be able to lift 50 pounds and provide a Driver’s Abstract and Criminal Records Check.
*Strong Start to Reading is looking for volunteer coaches to work one-on-one with children ages 5 to 9 through its Letters, Sounds and Words early literacy program. Volunteers work in HPEDSB schools for 30 minutes once a week over 10–12 weeks, using fun games and activities to help children build foundational reading skills and confidence. Volunteers can also choose to work with more children for 1–2 hours per week. Two 2-hour training sessions are provided, and a Vulnerable Sector Police Check is required. Weekday daytime availability is required.
*Heart of Hastings Hospice is looking for volunteers to assist with fundraising events throughout the year. Volunteers can help with planning and promoting events, ticket sales, distributing flyers, event setup and cleanup, and assisting during fundraisers. This is a flexible opportunity, with volunteers able to participate in one or multiple events throughout the year. Training and orientation are provided and funded by Heart of Hastings Hospice.
*Canada Walks for Bladder Cancer is looking for volunteers to help with the Belleville Walks for Bladder Cancer event on September 20th from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 50 Bay Bridge Rd. Volunteers will assist with the local event and patient education activities, with photographers also welcome to help capture the day. No training is required.
*Quinte Museum of Natural History is looking for volunteers to assist with school visits and educational programming, as well as support busy museum days such as Family Day and Doors Open. On-the-job training and job shadowing are provided. Volunteers can help on weekday or weekend daytime shifts.
*Foundations Youth Centre is looking for volunteers to prepare and serve lunch to youth at its Madoc location. Volunteers can choose a weekday that fits their schedule, with shifts running from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Duties may also include picking up food and cleaning up after lunch. The program serves up to 30 youth, and orientation and training are provided.
*Community Care for Central Hastings is looking for volunteer transportation drivers to provide local and long-distance rides for clients in Madoc, Marmora, Stirling and Tweed. Volunteers use their own vehicles and are reimbursed for mileage and out-of-pocket expenses. Drivers are especially needed in the Tweed area.
*Prince Edward County Community Care for Seniors Association is looking for volunteers to assist with Active Living programs and support instructors and facilitators during courses and sessions. Volunteers are asked to commit a few hours a month, with events typically lasting 1–2 hours. Those with a skill or interest to share can also become instructors or facilitators. Orientation and ongoing support are provided. Programs take place throughout Prince Edward County and on Zoom, with weekday daytime opportunities.
*Food for Learning – Learning Foundation is looking for volunteers to help prepare and serve nutritious breakfasts, lunches and snacks to school-aged children. Duties may include food preparation, setup and cleanup, safe food handling, and assisting with purchasing healthy food. Volunteers can choose a commitment that works for their schedule, from once a week to every school day. Programs run Monday to Friday from September to June, with typical times of 7:30–8:30 a.m. at high schools and 8:30–9:30 a.m. at elementary schools.
