Here is the VIQ Update for this week:
*VON Hastings, Northumberland, Prince Edward is looking for volunteers to deliver hot and frozen meals to clients in the Trenton, Frankford and Batawa areas. Volunteers are needed Monday to Friday, typically between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Commitment is flexible based on volunteer availability, and volunteers receive mileage reimbursement for using their own vehicle.
*Gateway Community Health Centre is looking for volunteers to help organize and load Good Food Boxes into vehicles for distribution in Tweed. Volunteers will work alongside other volunteers and Gateway CHC staff and must be able to lift up to 30 pounds. The opportunity takes place once a month on the second Tuesday, during the daytime. Training will be provided by Gateway CHC staff.
*VIQ is looking for volunteers to assist with the Homestead Antique Market on September 26th and 27th at Homestead Marketplace on Douglas Road in Quinte West. Volunteers are needed as gate attendants to greet attendees, accept cash donations and track attendance, as well as parking attendants to direct vehicles and guide visitors to the event entrance. Shifts vary between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Training will be provided on-site.
*West Lake Terrace nursing home in Picton, is looking for volunteers to visit with residents at their long-term care home. Volunteers are asked to commit one hour per week, with visiting times flexible. A comprehensive orientation to the home and volunteer role will be provided.
*Central Hastings Support Network Inc. is looking for volunteer drivers residing in Belleville to transport clients to appointments. Trips may take place any day of the week within Belleville or to destinations as far as Kingston or Toronto, and drivers can choose which trips they are available to accept. Volunteers use their own vehicles and receive mileage reimbursement. A valid G license, police check and clear driver’s abstract are required.
*Prince Edward County Community Care for Seniors Association is looking for reception volunteers to assist at its community office and foot care clinics. Volunteers will work in a busy environment, helping with reception duties and interacting with clients and staff. A commitment of approximately three hours per week is required. Orientation, ongoing support and mentoring will be provided.
*Heart of Hastings Hospice is looking for volunteers to provide social connections and support to clients in its grief program, particularly in the Madoc, Marmora, Stirling and Tweed areas. Volunteers are matched with a grief program client and may check in with them a few times a month by phone or in person. Volunteers will receive comprehensive training and orientation, including 20 hours of online training and hands-on training with a coordinator. A Police Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
*Foundations Youth Centre is looking for volunteers to support its After School Program in Quinte West. Volunteers provide snacks and refreshments to youth and assist with arts and crafts, homework and projects. Volunteers can also help youth plan and organize community events. The program runs Thursday and Friday evenings from 6:30 to 11:00 p.m.
