There wasn’t an empty seat left at the Quinte West Chamber of Commerce All-Candidates Event last night.
Over 300 people gathered in the gym at St. Paul Catholic School in Trenton to hear from those running to be councillors and the next mayor of Quinte West.
Current Councillors Shelley Stedall and Zack Card are running for the top job against David Thomson, who has never run for office.
Stedall highlighted her experience, leadership and results, and noted that it is important for more public input and a fiscally responsible Council.
Card wants to make Quinte West more affordable, and intends to put in a renoviction bylaw, and use technology to modernize supports and save tax dollars.
David Thomson, said that he wanted to run for Mayor, because he realized he could not get what he wants done as a councillor.
He says he would use the Strong Mayors Powers to freeze taxes for the next-four years, adding that if Council chose to veto that move, then he’d resign.
Alto and the proposed data centre were brought up in the discussion that will be posted on the YourTV Quinte YouTube Page, Monday.
