Each year since 1920, the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte have held a reenactment of the arrival of the first Mohawk families to the shore of the Bay of Quinte in 1784. This year’s reenactment had been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, however the Annual Landing address by Chief R. Donald Maracle was heard at 12 noon on 91X on Saturday and Sunday. If you missed it, it’s available below. Hear the story of how the original group of five Mohawk families came across Lake Ontario, amid ongoing American and British conflict, to seek a new life on the peaceful northern shore and begin building what is now the community of Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte.
