Hastings Prince Edward Public Health continues to report new cases of COVID-19 as provincial health officials release details about the vaccination program.
Local officials are reporting seven new cases of the virus in Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
Three are listed as close contacts, while the details about the other four remain pending.
That brings the total number of active cases to 33. Two of those people remain in hospital, but no one is in ICU or on a ventilator.
- 15 in Belleville
- 13 in Quinte West
- 3 in Central Hastings
- 1 in North Hastings
- 1 in Prince Edward County
The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit is reporting seven new cases in Northumberland County today.
That brings the total number of active cases to 41 in the county.
Ontario has announced that all residents and workers in some of the province’s hardest-hit areas will be vaccinated by January 21. Officials have identified priority regions as being Toronto, Peel, York and Windsor-Essex.
Officials note in their update today:
- 44 vaccine sites have been set up
- Over 50,000 people have received the Pfizer vaccine
- 26,000 to health care workers in long-term care and retirement homes
- 20,000 to health care workers
- 1,000 to residents
Update about the Moderna vaccine rollout:
- 24 long-term care homes received close to 3,000 doses over the course of December 31 and January 3.
- The province received close to 53,000 doses of the vaccine on December 30. Ontario will be using a small shipment for a pilot project in Toronto, York, Peel, and Windsor-Essex. The doses will be going to residents at long-term care homes and high-risk retirement homes.
Ontario announced today that they will be investing $398 million to assist with reducing the spread of the virus in long-term care homes during the second wave.
