The Belleville Senators have announced some new members to their coaching staff, as they wait for the green light to start the season.
The American Hockey League’s new season kicks off tonight, without the Senators and the rest of the Canadian division due to lockdown restrictions.
The Belleville Senators continue with training camp, and have announced a two new faces.
Former professional players Ben Sexton and Justin Peters are now on the staff.
Sexton, who is originally from Ottawa, will be an assistant coach. He scored 90 points in his AHL career, which includes some times with the Belleville Senators for two seasons.
“Fresh off of playing, Ben knows what the players are going through on a day-to-day basis. He is familiar with the organization already having been here for parts of two seasons in Belleville playing for me. He’s exactly the type of person we want to have to work with our young forward core,” said Troy Mann, head coach of the Belleville Senators.
Peters will be joining the team as the new goaltending coach. He played 68 games in the NHL, and also has success in the AHL and ECHL. Peters is originally from Blyth, Ontario, and finished off his career overseas.
“Justin had a solid playing career with a plethora of experiences at all levels of professional hockey including the NHL. We went to the Calder Cup Final together in Hershey in 2016. He is ready for this new challenge and we look forward to him positively impacting our young goalies in the organization,” said Mann, in a press release.
