We’ve hit a grim milestone in the COVID-19 pandemic, as the number of new cases continues to climb locally.
Hastings Prince Edward Public Health has recorded now over 1,000 cases of the virus, since the pandemic began in March of 2020.
The region has seen a total of 1,004 cases overall, as of today.
Health officials are reporting 17 new cases today, and 10 more recoveries. Seven of the new cases reported are listed as variants of concern.
There are now a total of 81 active COVID-19 cases between the two counties.
Hospital staff are treating 17 local COVID-19 patients, with six in ICU and six on a ventilator.
Health officials have announced a new outbreak at a child care facility in Belleville, on the same day that they declared an outbreak over at a child care facility in Quinte West.
There are a total of seven active outbreaks:
- Child Care Facility in Belleville (Declared May 7) – 3 cases linked.
- Quinte Health Care – Belleville ICU (Declared May 4) – 3 cases linked.
- Congregated Living Facility in Belleville – (Declared April 30) – 2 cases linked.
- Workplace in Belleville (Declared April 28) – 3 cases linked.
- Quinte Health Care – Belleville Unit 5 – (Declared April 27) – 21 cases linked.
- Workplace in Belleville (Declared April 23) – 7 cases linked.
- Workplace in Prince Edward County (Declared April 19) – 6 cases linked.
A total of 66,472 vaccine doses have been administered, with 37 per cent of the population with their first dose. A total of 4,612 residents or 3 per cent of the population, are fully vaccinated.
The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit is reporting six new COVID-19 cases in Northumberland County today. The county now has a total of 32 active COVID-19 cases.
Ontario is reporting 2,864 new COVID-19 cases today.
