Here’s where the Indie 5 Countdown is at this week:
5: Texas King – You
- The only new entry on the chart this week.
- This is one of the tracks from the London, Ontario band’s new EP called, Changes.
- They will be in Kingston on December 11.
4: Jesse Roads – Catch Fire
- Second week on the countdown for the Alberta artist.
- Up one spot.
- The song was recorded remotely throughout the start of the pandemic last year. Roads was named the “Master of Blues Folk Rock” as apart of the Annual Black American Music Awards in 2015.
3: COIN – Chapstick
- The Nashville trio are in their sixth week on the countdown with this song. It went #1 last week.
- “Chapstick is an attempt to describe something as inhuman as AI experiencing something so acutely human as a first kiss,” said COIN in a statement.
2: Beckett – Weirdo
- This is the title track from his debut EP. The 17-year-old has struck up a friendship with Pierre Bouvier from Simple Plan.
- “What ‘Weirdo’ means to me is that it’s OK to be different and weird. It’s giving the middle finger to bullies or people who make fun of you for being yourself because everyone at some point in their lives has felt like a weirdo in some way. I think in 2021, we have to learn to stop the hate and just love each other because that will make the world a happier place,” said Beckett in an interview with Alternative Press.
1: Girl in Red – I’ll Call You Mine
- Moves up one spot in the fifth week on the countdown.
- The 22-year-old scored the hattrick here on 91X back in the spring. Her song “Serotonin” was first on our Indie 5 countdown for three weeks.
