Loyalist College has announced that another COVID-19 case has been linked to the College community.
The College’s Marketing and Communication Team noted that this is the second case of the virus linked to the College since the start of September.
The first case was announced November 29.
Staff add that this latest case involves a person who was on campus during their infectious period. Transmission did not occur on campus and public health has notified high-risk contacts. Health officials will reportedly be providing a letter and phoning all close contacts.
The College continues to encourage staff and students to monitor for COVID-19 symptoms, and get tested and isolate if symptoms come up. Loyalist does have a full vaccination policy in place.
The news comes as there continues to be a high number of COVID-19 cases across the Quinte region.
Hastings Prince Edward Public Health reported 54 new COVID-19 cases and 37 recoveries today.
There are 164 active COVID-19 cases, with six people in hospital and three in the ICU.
Staff add that there are now 20 active COVID-19 outbreaks in the region, the latest impacting St. Michael’s and Nicholson Catholic schools in Belleville.
A total of 89 per cent of residents 12 and older have received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, with 84 per cent fully vaccinated.
Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington Public Health has announced 117 new COVID-19 cases today. There are a total of 337 active COVID-19 cases, with 22 people in hospital and 11 in the ICU.
Dr. Piotr Oglaza, Medical Officer of Health at KFL&A Public Health, issued a statement today advising residents to be cautious and get vaccinated.
“Due in part to the high vaccinations rates in our community, we have managed to keep schools and workplaces open; however, now we must prioritize measures to stabilize cases in the region.” said Dr. Oglaza.
The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit reported three new COVID-19 cases today in Northumberland County. There are a total of 11 active infections in Northumberland.
There are 887 new COVID-19 cases across Ontario today. A total of 13 cases of the Omicron variant have been confirmed. The Ministry of Health reported a total of 8,439 known active COVID-19 cases in Ontario.
