The Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation will be renaming their golf tournament after a late businessman.
The team announced during their Annual General Meeting yesterday, that the tournament will be known this year as the “Pioneer Health John Smylie Memorial for TMHF.” The event will take place on August 12 at the Oak Hills Golf Course.
Smylie died last week at the age of 64. He owned Smylie’s Your Independent Grocer in Trenton. He was passionate about the community and was a key advocate for Trenton Memorial Hospital.
His family will be holding a visitation at the Weaver Life Centre today. The visitation times are from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
The City of Belleville will lower the flags at City Hall tomorrow in honour of Smylie. A funeral service will take place tomorrow morning at the National Air Force Museum.
