After two unsettling years of isolation and COVID-19 restrictions, it’s time to venture out with caution and enjoy the many upcoming outdoor events in our area as summer is nearly upon us. Volunteering is a great way to get involved with community organizations.
Here is how you can help this week:
- Volunteering Information Quinte is recruiting volunteers for the Big Summer Concert in Quinte West and for Empire Rockfest in Belleville. The Big Summer Concert is July 2 at the Bob Wannamaker Ampitheatre in Quinte West. The Toronto-based Dwayne Gretzky band is headlining the event. Volunteers are needed to scan tickets, check identification and wrist bands at the gate, to be ushers, and oversee the VIP area. They are also looking for Smart Serve volunteers to work in the bar area. Volunteers are needed for the same positions at Empire Rockfest July 14, 15, and 16th at the Empire Square in downtown Belleville.
- Quinte Ribfest is back after a COVID-19 hiatus. It’s sponsored by Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Hastings Prince Edward and the YMCA. Ribfest is August 5 to 7th at Centennial Park in Quinte West. A second Ribfest will be held at the Quinte Exhibition Fairgrounds in Belleville August 19, 20, 21st. Volunteers are needed to work the front gate, the Kid’s zone, to sell raffle tickets and for the 50/50 draw, and for the clean-up crew. Smart Serve volunteers are also needed to assist in the bar area.
- The Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation needs helpers at the John Smylie Classic Golf Tournament on August 12th. It’s at the Oak Hills Golf Course. Volunteers will monitor holes-in-one, scoring and assist with contests along the course. Training will be provided.
