Cobourg is planning to host an event to mark Overdose Awareness Day.
The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit has announced in a statement that “The Time To Remember, Time To Act” event will take place on Wednesday, August 31 at Victoria Hall in downtown Cobourg.
The event from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. aims to tell the stories beyond the statistics. The team will be handing out free naloxone kits on-site and presentations are planned.
A vigil will take place at 8 p.m. to remember those we’ve lost due to toxic drug poisoning and overdoses. Those who would like to share a memory are encourage to submit a name or story at IOADNorthumberland@gmail.com. People can also speak at the vigil if they are comfortable.
The news comes as the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District health Unit has issued an opioid overdose alert for Northumberland County and the City of Kawartha Lakes
