The City of Belleville has issued a second update today, following a massive fire last night on Station Street and Haig Road.
Emergency crews responded to the fire at 11 p.m.
Residents noted on social media that they could see ash and debris all over. Some people this afternoon on the other side of town had debris on their properties.
Those impacted in the immediate fire area were evacuated to the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre. About 150 homes were evacuated overnight.
The City of Belleville has confirmed this afternoon, that there is no danger to residents as a result of the fire. Those who have been evacuated can return home. They are being encouraged to check their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms as they may have been active overnight.
The Ministery of Environment, Conservation, and Parks has completed their assessment in the area. Those who have debris are being advised to use gloves when they clean-up. The debris can be disposed in the regular garbage pick-up.
City crews continue to be at the scene of the fire removing debris. Residents who do not live in the immediate neighbourhoods are being asked to stay away.
