September is a busy time of year in the Quinte region, with several events, fundraisers and community programs looking for support. If you have some time to spare, or are looking to test or expand your skill set, then Volunteer Information Quinte has a place for you.
Here is the VIQ Update for this week:
*The Bridge Street Lunch Program in Belleville, is looking for servers on Sunday and Tuesday. The shifts are from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Volunteers would be responsible for serving food, and cleaning up. On Sundays, volunteers will also be asked to greet guests and monitor areas.
*Links to Learning is looking for volunteer tutors to assist with reading, comprehension, and writing. Their programs runs Monday & Tuesday nights. This opportunity is open to youth over the age of 14 and is a great way to achieve volunteer hours.
* YourTV Quinte is looking for volunteers to help with a variety of shows. Volunteers assist the crew with filming sports events and other productions. This is a great way to learn about the film industry, especially if you are a student. Training is provided on-site.
* The ROC Youth Centre in Prince Edward County offers programs and drop-in activities for students in the region. The team is looking for volunteers to help out Monday through Friday during after-school hours from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. People are needed to help mentor, supervise, and support youth and teens.
*Community Care Prince Edward County Association is looking for volunteer drivers to help get clients out to appointments and for essential shopping. In most cases, the driver remains with the client to make sure they get home safe. Parking is not included in the fee schedule and will be covered by the client. Clients are independently mobile. Orientation and ongoing support is provided by a staff member.
*Catharine’s Kitchen in Quinte West is looking for help in the kitchen as a part of its food program. People are needed to prepare food, serve, and clean up. The program runs from Monday to Thursday with shifts from 8:45 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. There are also on-call positions.
*Community Care South Hasting requires volunteer drivers to drive seniors to and from medical appointments in Kingston, Belleville, Trenton, Picton, and all points in between. Occasionally to Ottawa or Toronto. They are also seeking volunteers to deliver Meals on Wheels and frozen meal program.
*The Children’s Foundation is getting ready for their Kids Can’t Wait Radiothon on October 4th. The team is looking for help with answering phones and collecting donations. Training will be provided before the big day.
* Trenton Care and Share Foodbank are looking for people to help with sorting food donations, stocking shelves, and packing food hampers. You should be able to comfortably lift 30 pounds for this role, and be okay with working in a fast-paced environment.
* A variety of nonprofit agencies are looking for volunteers to help out with charity bingos at the Lion’s Club in Belleville. Games are held daily in the afternoons and evenings. Volunteers are needed to help call back bingos and assist with payouts. All proceeds go to the groups to ensure that vital programs and services continue.
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
