Fire Prevention Week starts on Sunday.
Belleville Fire and Emergency Services will be hosting programming to mark the week, from October 8 to 14th.
Fire prevention officers will be making school trips to educate children about fire safety.
An Open House event will take place at Belleville Fire Station 1 on Saturday, October 14th. The event at 60 Bettes Street will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Families will be able to enjoy lunch, tour the fire trucks, and learn about fire safety. The Children’s Safety Village will be at the fire hall with their street safety jeeps.
The theme for Fire Prevention Week is -“Cooking safety starts with YOU! Pay attention to fire prevention!”
“Kitchen fires are the leading cause of house fires and house fire-related injuries. This Fire Prevention Week, we are aiming to make sure all residents understand the importance of cooking with caution and what to do in the event of a kitchen fire,” said Fire Prevention Officer Richard Quick, released in a statement by the City.
