HPEPH reporting two new COVID-19 related deaths as reported infections climb

Hastings Prince Edward Public Health continues to report a rise in new high risk COVID-19 infections, confirmed through PCR testing.

Staff have announced in their weekly report this morning, that they have logged 44 new high-risk infections over the last seven days. Double the number from last week.

There are currently 51 active high-risk infections between the two counties today. Quinte Health is averaging five local patients over the last week.

Two new deaths have been reported today, brining the death toll to 127 people since the start of the pandemic in March 2020.

The number of active COVID-19 outbreaks is down to four. There are new outbreaks at Eden Place in Belleville and West Lake Terrace long term care home in Prince Edward County. Outbreaks continue at Seasons in Trenton and Bridge Street Retirement Home in Belleville. The 0utbreak at Belleville General Hospital Quinte 6 has been declared over.

Local health officials continue to urge people to get an updated COVID-19 vaccine, wear a mask in indoor settings, and stay home if you are sick. The updated COVID-19 vaccine is currently available in a limited supplies in the Quinte region, for those at high-risk of serious complications from infection. The vaccines will be available to the general public as of Monday.
