Fall is a busy time of year in the Quinte region, with key fundraisers and community programs looking for support. If you have some time to spare or are looking to test or expand your skill set, get your volunteer hours done…. then Volunteer Information Quinte has a place for you.
Here is the VIQ Update for this week:
*The Regent Theatre located in Picton is looking for people to help out with some odd jobs. It can be anything from being an usher to helping out with ticket sales. High school students are welcome to apply!
*Community Care Central Hastings continues to need volunteer drivers to deliver meals to seniors. Meal deliveries are on weekdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Volunteers must have their own vehicle. The time commitment can be weekly, biweekly, or monthly
*Habitat For Humanity ReStore is seeking volunteers to assist with preparing merchandise for sale (cleaning and simple repairs), creating floor displays, customer service, housekeeping duties, loading and unloading donations, and preparing some items for scrap, recycling, or disposal.
*If you love a good thrift shop, then you have another excuse to go to the one in Picton. Prince Edward Community Care is looking for people to help run the Thrift Shop. No experience is necessary. Shifts are 3 hours a week, and are between 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. or 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Community Care can really use some people on Saturdays right now. Community Care also needs people to help run the front desk at their Picton office. Shifts are 3 hours a week. Orientation is provided.
*Drivers are needed to deliver meals to seniors in Athol and Milford. Drivers pick up hot meals in Picton at 11:30 a.m. and follow a specific route. The time commitment is three hours a week.
*The Community Development Council of Quinte, Known as CDC Quinte, is looking for folks to help out with their weekly Good Food Box Program. Volunteers must be able to lift 50 pounds, for this job which would include packing food hampers and loading deliveries in the van.
*Community Care South Hastings still needs people to drive clients to local and long-distance appointments. Volunteers will be reimbursed for their mileage. Community Care also needs folks to help out with the Meals on Wheels Program. You must have your own vehicle.
*Food For Learning is seeking volunteers at various schools throughout Hastings and Prince Edward. Duties include shopping, preparing and serving food to students, and general clean up. The time commitments vary, based on the needs of each school.
*The Bridge Street Lunch Program in Belleville, is looking for servers on Sunday and Tuesday. The shifts are from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Volunteers would be responsible for serving food, and cleaning up. On Sundays, volunteers will be asked to greet guests and monitor areas.
*Links to Learning is looking for volunteer tutors to assist with reading, comprehension, and writing. Their programs run on Monday & Tuesday nights. This opportunity is open to youth over the age of 14 and is a great way to achieve volunteer hours.
*Trenton Care and Share Foodbank is seeking volunteers to assist in distributing food. Responsibilities include sorting donations, packing hampers, and restocking shelves, You should be able to comfortably lift 50 pounds.
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
