Fall is a busy time of year in the Quinte region, with key fundraisers and community programs looking for support. If you have some time to spare or are looking to test or expand your skill set, get your volunteer hours done.. then Volunteer Information Quinte has a place for you.
Here is the VIQ Update for this week:
*Community Care Prince Edward County Association is looking for people to take clients to medical and get some essential shopping done. In most cases, the driver will stick with the client to make sure they get home safely. Clients pay the driver directly according to the fee schedule. Clients are independently mobile. Orientation and ongoing support is provided.
*Food For Learning is seeking volunteers at various schools throughout Hastings and Prince Edward. Duties include shopping, preparing and serving food to students, and general clean up. The time commitments vary, based on the needs of each school.
*Links to Learning is looking for volunteer tutors to assist with reading, comprehension, and writing. Their program runs Monday and Tuesday nights. This opportunity is open to youth over the age of 14 and is a great way to achieve volunteer hours.
*The Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, is looking for people who could greet people at Picton Hospital. They need people at the front entrance of the hospital to answer questions, and give direction. This is a valued role that is very much needed.
*Grace Inn Shelter is looking for folks to help out in a variety of roles. They need volunteers to help with cleaning duties – doing the laundry, making beds, and sorting donations. Grace Inn Shelter also needs people who enjoy being in the kitchen, prepping food, making drinks, and interacting with guests.
*Continuing On In Education, is a group that is looking for volunteers to help out with their bingo nights in Belleville. They need people one to three times a month. The time commitment is 5:45 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Duties include calling back Bingos and customer support. Training is provided.
Big Brothers Big Sisters is also looking for Bingo volunteers. The time commitment is 1 pm to 4 pm or 5:45 to 9:30 pm.
Foundations of Youth Centre needs people to help out with after-school programs in Tweed and Quinte West. Duties include homework support, organizing games and activities, or simply chatting with young people. They are also seeking volunteers in Madoc to assist with their lunch program duties, including preparing and serving lunch to youth during school lunch times. Training is provided.
*Community Care for Seniors Prince Edward County Association is currently seeking volunteers for the following positions. Reception Volunteer in the Picton office. If you enjoy a fast pace in a changing environment the reception desk might be for you. Three hours a week is all it takes to get involved. Orientation is provided and staff support is readily available. Volunteers are also needed to deliver meals in Athol and Milford. If you have 3 hours/week to spare this might be the right volunteer. Hot meals are picked up in Picton at 11:30 a.m. and delivered to seniors on a specified route.
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
