Firefighters and police officers have teamed up with the Belleville Senators to remind residents to practice safe driving over the winter.
Here are some tips from the City today:
- Be Prepared – Install winter tires on your vehicle, top up your gas tank and windshield fluid frequently, give yourself time to get where you need to go, ensure you clear all snow from your hood, roof, windows and lights, and keep an emergency kit in your vehicle with things like food, water, blankets, extra clothing, candles/matches, a shovel and a first aid kit.
- Stay Alert – Always drive sober, watch for fog, black ice, slush and snow-covered roads, slow down where necessary and leave plenty of room between vehicles.
- Avoid Distractions – Keep cell phones and electronic devices turned off or out of reach.
“Winter weather should always be taken seriously, especially when it comes to road conditions and winter driving. The Belleville Senators were more than happy to help support such an important campaign with the Belleville Fire and Emergency Services department and the Belleville Police Service. Winter weather, especially in the Bay of Quinte Area, can turn bad in a matter of minutes, so we urge everyone in our community to plan ahead, and have a safety kit in their vehicles when travelling,” said Breanne Matthews in a statement, the Belleville Senators Senior Vice President of Business Operations.
