The holiday season is here and while the spirit of giving is around us – you might be wondering how you can give back to your community? Maybe it’s your New Year’s resolution.
If you are moving in that direction, new to the community, or looking to share your skills with others…then Volunteer Information Quinte can find the right place for you within our community.
Here is the VIQ Update for this week:
*Community Living Quinte West is looking for people to help out every other week. They need folks to help run bingo games, take people out for coffee, help with fundraising or home visits. Orientation and training is provided.
*The Gateway Community Health Center is seeking volunteers the second Tuesday of every month, to help organize and load good food boxes into clients vehicles. Volunteers must be able to lift 30 pounds.
*Abigail’s is looking for an enthusiastic volunteer to work in the Babies and Beyond program once a week on Thursday afternoons. Duties include set up, participating, cleaning and organizing.
*The Open Door Cafe is a free community lunch held at Eastminster United Church every Wednesday in Belleville. The team is looking for people to help out in the kitchen Wednesdays from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
*The Alternatives for Women Team is looking for community members to assist with maintaining programming and buildings. Tasks include childcare, providing transportation within Prince Edward County, sorting and packing donations.
*Links to Learning is seeking volunteers for their tutoring programs. Volunteers assist children with reading following a set curriculum. Tutoring takes place Monday and Tuesday from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Training is provided on site, and high school students are welcome.
*Catherine’s Kitchen in Trenton needs people to help prepare food, serve and clean=up. Shifts are from 8:45 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. They also have some on-call positions. The program runs from Monday to Thursday.
*Community Care Prince Edward County Association needs people can can drive clients to and from medical appointments and out for some essential shopping. Clients pay the driver directly according to the fee schedule. Parking fees are covered by clients, who are independently mobile. Orientation and ongoing support is provided by a staff member.
*Do you like to work in an office? Then Community Care Centre Hastings needs a volunteer at their office in Tweed. The volunteer would help answer the phone, and do some computer work. Training is provided and the time commitment is flexible.
*Bancroft Community Transit requires volunteer drivers to help get clients out to appointments and shopping. Long distance drives may be required. Mileage is reimbursed.
*Continuing on in Education is seeking Bingo volunteers to assist during the nightly bingo games at the Lions Hall in Belleville. The time commitment is 5:45 p.m. to 9 p.m., once a month on a Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Funds raised support local programming.
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
