The Belleville Neighbours Facebook Group was flooded with comments last night, following several reports of overdoses in the downtown core and ambulances on scene.
Belleville Police has released the following statement this morning.
“On the 31 st of January between 5:13pm and 8:50pm, police responded to four separate calls for service involving reported overdoses. In total, five people had overdosed in those occurrences.
At 5:13pm, police and EMS attended a location in the downtown core for the reports of a 44-year-old male who had overdosed. He was transported to the Belleville General Hospital by EMS for treatment.
At 5:26pm, Police and EMS responded to a 32-year-old female who had overdosed while in the downtown core. The female was transported to the Belleville General Hospital by EMS for treatment.
At 6:19pm, Police, Fire and EMS responded to the downtown core for the reports of a 26-year-old male who had overdosed. The male was transported to the Belleville General Hospital by EMS for treatment.
At 8:50pm, Police, Fire and EMS responded to the downtown core for the reports of two females that had overdosed. The females were 39 and 36-years old. Upon being seen by EMS, both females declined further medical attention.
The Belleville Police Service would like to remind anyone who uses drugs of the advice from the Hastings Prince Edward Public Health Unit. If you use drugs, do not use them while alone, refrain from mixing drugs, try a small amount first to reduce the risk of drug poisoning and always have at least one naloxone kit nearby. Anyone who is using drugs alone can also call the National Overdose Response Service at 1-888-688-6677 and someone will stay on the line with them.”
