Several groups and organizations in the Quinte region are looking for your support. If you have some extra time or are looking to meet some new people.. then Volunteer Information Quinte can help you find the right volunteer opportunity.
Here is the VIQ Update for this week:
*Prince Edward County Community Care for Seniors is looking for people to drive clients to and from medical appointments. Locations can be local or Kingston. Volunteers choose how often they drive and receive mileage reimbursement of .50 cents per kilometer.
The Highland Shores Children’s Aid Society is currently seeking individuals to serve on their Board of Directors. Applicants must reside within Hastings, Prince Edward or Northumberland Counties. Professional experience in finance, human resources, social services, law, and education is considered an asset. Board members are provided with ongoing training and learning opportunities. Meetings take place 10 months of the year with a three-year term commitment. Individuals unable to commit to a three-year term can apply for a one-year term as a community member.
*Pathways to Independence has a few volunteer positions. They need someone to sit with a man during church services in Prince Edward County. They are also looking for people who can visit clients in their homes. Clients in need of support are dealing with brain injuries or other developmental disabilities. The volunteers would spend time socializing, reading, playing games, and sharing stories.
*Highland Shores Children’s Aid is seeking volunteer drivers who transport clients around Belleville, Cobourg, or Port Hope. Volunteers assist staff and foster parents with the safe transportation of the children and adults served by the agency to locations where essential services are provided and no other means of access to the service is available. Time commitment varies Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend requests. Mileage reimbursement is provided.
*Links to Learning is looking for volunteers to assist children with reading by following a set curriculum, on Monday and Tuesday evenings from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Volunteers should be able to commit to a once weekly session with a child for 6 months minimum. High School students are welcome.
*Community Living Quinte West is looking for people to help run bingos twice a month, take clients out for coffee, and visiting people in their homes. Orientation and training provided.
*The Alternative’s for Women team is looking for community members. Volunteers help to maintain programming and buildings. Tasks include childcare, providing transportation within PEC, sorting and packaging donations for clients, maintenance around buildings, and assisting with events
*Meals on Wheels volunteers are required for Community Care programs in South Hastings, Central Hastings, Prince Edward County, and Quinte West to assist with the delivery of Meals. Volunteers will deliver hot meals to clients’ doorsteps on weekdays. A flexible shift is available, whether it is once a week or once a month, a schedule will be made that works for you. You must have your own vehicle.
*Catharine’s Kitchen located in Quinte West is seeking volunteers to assist in food prep, serving, and clean up. Shifts are from 8:45 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. There are on-call positions as well as scheduled positions. The program runs from Monday to Thursday.
*The Stirling Mill Lending Library is looking for someone to serve as their Board secretary. Duties include attending board meetings, and recording and writing meeting minutes. Training and orientation is provided.
*The City of Belleville is looking for people to volunteer at summer camps held at the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre. Volunteer hours are flexible from Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
