Spring is here, and for many high-school students, that means that time is ticking to get their volunteer hours done.
If you find yourself in that spot, or with some free time to spare. Then Volunteer Information Quinte can find the right place for you.
Here is the VIQ Update this week:
*Prince Edward County Community Care for Seniors is looking for volunteer drivers. They need people to help clients get to and from medical appointments. The locations can be local or Kingston. Volunteers choose their schedule and are reimbursed 50 cents per kilometer.
*Meals on Wheels volunteers are required for Community Care programs in South Hastings, Central Hastings, Prince Edward County, and Quinte West. Volunteers deliver hot meals to clients’ doorsteps on weekdays. A flexible shift is available, whether it is once a week or once a month, a schedule will be made that works for you. You must have your own vehicle.
*People are needed to help out with the Alzheimer Society’s in-home activation program. Volunteers work with the activation coordinator to deliver in-home activities and provide direct engagement to those living with dementia. Volunteers will be trained in dementia care and various activation activities to do with clients. Volunteers must be able to commit to one visit per week with one client for 12 weeks at a time.
*Quinte Validity & Social Support (QVSS) is a non-profit agency that serves adults with developmental disabilities through day programs. They need people with a wide range of skills to join their board as they begin a new phase with the agency. Applications are being accepted for review. Prospective applicants will be invited to attend a board meeting for an interview.
*The Community Development Council of Quinte (CDC Quinte) is seeking volunteers to deliver Good Food Boxes. Delivery locations include Belleville, Trenton, Deseronto, Tyendinaga, Frankford, Marmora, Madoc, Bancroft, Tweed, and Stirling. The time commitment is the second and or fourth Tuesday of every month. People can also choose to be a backup driver. Volunteers must be able to lift 50 lbs.
*Loyola School is currently seeking English as a second language assistants. People need to be in class at least one morning a week. Classes run Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Volunteers work in collaboration with the ESL instructor.
*Highland Shores Children’s Aid is looking for volunteer drivers. People are needed to help transport children and foster parents across the Belleville, Cobourg, and Port Hope corridor. The time commitment varies from Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend requests. Mileage reimbursement is provided.
*Links to Learning is looking for volunteers to assist children with reading by following a set curriculum. The schedule is Monday and Tuesday from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Volunteers should be able to commit to one session a week with a child for six months. High school students are welcome to apply.
*Community Living Quinte West is seeking volunteers to help with a variety of programs and events. Tasks include running bingo games and taking clients out for coffee. Orientation and training provided.
*The Alternatives for Women team is looking for community members to assist with maintaining the programming and buildings. Tasks include childcare, providing transportation within PEC, sorting and packing donations for clients, maintenance around buildings, and assisting with events.
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
