Happy National Volunteer Week! Thank you to all the dedicated volunteers in the Quinte region, who help support a variety of events and programs.
Volunteer Information Quinte – is the organization that matches volunteers with organizations. If you have some free time, looking to meet some new people or get engaged with your community again. VIQ can find the right fit!
Here is the VIQ update for this week:
*If you enjoy doing taxes, then Prince Edward Community Care needs you! The team is looking for people who can help finish tax returns of seniors. Volunteers must live in the County, and have their own computer. Eligible by the CRA and able to run the CRA Software program. Volunteers work from home.
*The Children’s Safety Village in Belleville is looking for volunteers to help with the upkeep of buildings and program areas. Volunteers would assist with general maintenance, decorating for events, and cleaning. Volunteers must be able to work outside and comfortable moving and climbing a ladder.
*Work at a hospital is never done, and volunteers across the region provide essential support. The Trenton Memorial Hospital needs folks to pitch in at the Day Surgery Ward. Volunteers assist patients and staff with directions, at the main desk, and making sure supplies are stocked up.
*Over at Belleville General Hospital, the Recreation Therapy team needs help. People are needed across several units to visit patients, offer support, and help with the lunch program.
*Foundations Youth Centre Madoc is looking for lunch volunteers. They need people to help prepare and serve lunches to 30 teens. The program runs Monday to Friday. The time commitment is from 10:00 am – 1:30 pm. Volunteers can choose a schedule that fits their needs. Orientation and training is provided.
*If you thrive in a caregiving role, then Heart of Hastings Hospice needs you. The team in Madoc is looking for people who can provide support to residents in the 3-bed hospice. All volunteers are required to undergo training and orientation set out by the Hospice Palliative Care of Ontario.
*Hospice Prince Edward, down in the county, is also looking for volunteers. The three-bed hospice in Picton is looking for people who can visit with people and their families. Hospice Prince Edward offers a 30-hour training program to volunteers.
*Gleaners Food Bank is looking for gardeners. People are needed to help out at the community garden.
*The Museums of Prince Edward County have some unique volunteer opportunities at five of its locations in the county: Front-desk receptions and hosts are needed at some of the museums. Several volunteers will get a chance to dress in period costumes and deliver programming. The museums in need of volunteers are Macaulay House, the Ameliasburgh Heritage Village, Wellington Heritage Museum, Mariner’s Park Museum, and the Rose House Museum.
*YMCA locations in Trenton and Belleville are looking for volunteers to help with support members. Volunteers are needed to help welcome new and returning visitors,and provide information about scheduling and programs. Orientation and training is provided.
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
