Now that the Winter Semester is over here at Loyalist College, some students are in summer mode with some extra time to spare. If you find yourself in that boat.. or a high school student looking to finish your volunteer hours.. then Volunteer Information Quinte is the place to go.
The team matches volunteers with a variety of opportunities locally.
Here is the VIQ Update for this week:
*The CNIB Foundation is looking for volunteers to work with clients who are blind or partially sighted. The one-to-one assistance program matches volunteers and clients based on their location and shared interests. Volunteers are needed to visit with clients a couple of hours a week and help them run errands, get out for walks, and socialize
*The Quinte West Garden group is looking for some help at the community gardens. People are needed to help tend to the flower beds, harvest and deliver produce, as well as assist with special events including the plant sale and Doors Open Quinte West.
*The Smile Cookie Campaign is running next week. The Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation is looking for volunteers to support the event.
*The Food For Learning Foundation also needs volunteers for the Smile Cookie campaign in Madoc, Marmora, Stirling, and Belleville
*Prince Edward County Community Care for Seniors is looking for volunteer drivers. The team needs people to help clients out to medical appointments locally and in Kingston. Mileage is reimbursed.
*Continuing On In Education are seeking Bingo volunteers. The team hosts evening bingo events at the Lions Club Hall in Belleville. Time commitment is 5:45 p.m. to 9 p.m., once a month on a Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Funds raised support local programming.
*The Belleville Abundance Project is a multi-year plan to create a community building designed to improve access to healthy and local food. The Community Development Council of Quinte, CDC Quinte, is now looking for people to be ambassadors. In this position, you will be liaising with businesses, organizations, and residents to develop relationships and share information. The time Commitment is 2-3 hours per week. Volunteers meet one-on-one to share and collect information and to attend community events to promote the project and provide information.
*The Alternatives for Women team is looking for community members to assist with maintaining the programming and buildings. Tasks include childcare, providing transportation within PEC, sorting and packing donations for clients, maintenance around buildings, and assisting with events.
*The City of Belleville is looking for summer camp volunteers. People would work at the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre assisting instructors. The summer day camps run Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Volunteer hours are flexible.
*The Belleville Quinte West Community Health Centre is a primary health organization that provides a wide range of programs and services to improve the health and well-being of people who live in the community. The Centre has a Site in Quinte West and one in Belleville. They are looking for individuals who have an idea for an activity and are interested in gifting their time to provide programs in nutrition, physical activity, or social well-being.
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
