As we celebrate the Victoria Day long weekend, many events and programs that we enjoy in the Quinte region would not happen without the dedication and generosity of countless volunteers. If you are looking to fill your schedule, try something new, or simply give back. Volunteer Information Quinte has a place for you.
Here is the VIQ Update for this week:
*The Quinte West Garden group is looking for some help at the community gardens. People are needed to help tend to the flower beds, harvest and deliver produce, as well as assist with special events including the plant sale and Doors Open Quinte West.
*The CNIB Foundation is looking for volunteers to work with clients who are blind or partially sighted. The one-to-one assistance program matches volunteers and clients based on their location and shared interests. Volunteers are needed to visit with clients a couple of hours a week and help them run errands, get out for walks, and socialize
*Volunteer Information Quinte can be your ticket into Empire Rockfest in downtown Belleville! VIQ is looking for lots of people to help work during Empire Rockfest on July 18th, 19th, and 20th. People are needed to scan tickets, check identification, oversee the stage area, and help provide directions! Smart Serve volunteers are needed at the bar area! Shifts vary from 4:30 pm to 11:30 pm.
*If you like to drive, then Community Care South Hastings needs you! They are looking for volunteer drivers to help clients get to and from medical appointments. Mileage is reimbursed. Orientation and training is provided. Community Care South Hastings also needed people to help with the Meals on Wheels program. Volunteers are needed weekdays from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. You can pick your own schedule, but you need a vehicle.
*Community Care Prince Edward County Association is also in need of drivers. They need people to take people to medical appointments and out for essential shopping.
*Drivers are also needed to support Meals on Wheels programs through Community Care South Hastings, Community Care Central Hastings, Community Care for Seniors PEC, and VON Quinte West.
*Work at a hospital is never done, and volunteers across the region provide essential support. Volunteers are needed at Trenton Memorial Hospital, Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital, and Belleville General Hospital. Volunteers assist patients and staff with directions, meal delivery, at the main desk, and making sure supplies continue to be well stocked. People are needed to help in the ER, mammography clinics, and day surgery areas. Orientation and training is provided.
Reaching For Rainbows in Picton is looking for volunteers. It’s a registered charity that offers no-cost programs for girls in Prince Edward County. If you can spare a few hours each week to engage in activities with the young participants, contact Reaching For Rainbows on its website.
*The Alternatives for Women team is looking for community members to assist with maintaining the programming and buildings. Tasks include childcare, providing transportation within PEC, sorting and packing donations for clients, maintenance around buildings, and assisting with events.
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
