Here is the VIQ Update this week.
*Junior Achievement Northern and Eastern Ontario is looking for folks who can help out at local schools. Volunteers offer a variety of programs to students at school ranging from Grade 7 to 12. Programs are centered around Finance, and Work readiness. Junior Achievement Northern and Eastern Ontario provides all of the information and material required for each program. Volunteers deliver these programs to students, in classrooms in conjunction with teachers.
*Habitat For Humanity ReStore is looking for help with preparing and displaying merchandise for sale and sorting donations.
*VON Hastings Northumberland Prince Edward is seeking volunteers to support people who are isolated. Volunteers visit clients in their homes and arrange activities and encourage independent living. Orientation and training provided.
*The Alternatives for Women team is looking for community members to assist with maintaining the programming and buildings. Tasks include childcare, providing transportation within PEC, sorting and packing donations for clients, maintenance around buildings, and assisting with events.
*Work at a hospital is never done, and volunteers across the region provide essential support. Volunteers are needed at Picton Hospital to help support patients. Volunteers assist patients and staff with directions, meal delivery, at the main desk, and making sure supplies continue to be well stocked. Orientation and training is provided.
*Bridge Street Lunch Program, in downtown Belleville, is currently seeking volunteer lunch servers on Sunday and Tuesdays from 11am to 1:30pm to serve lunch to guests and assist with cleanup of food and area. Volunteers are also required on Sunday to assist with greeting guests, monitor the area and assist with retrieving lunches for guests.
*Gleaners Food Bank is in urgent need of a volunteer drivers to assist with picking up donations and delivering food boxes to clients and affiliated agencies. Volunteers must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. The time commitment varies, as the program runs Monday to Friday
*The Community Development Council of Quinte, known as CDC Quinte, is looking for volunteer drivers and assistants for the Good Food Box program. This position includes some heavy lifting, driving a cube van once a month…on the second and fourth Tuesday.
*Trenton Care and Share Foodbank is seeking volunteers to assist in distributing food. Responsibilities include sorting of donations, packing hampers and restocking shelves, and onsite training will be provided. Should be able to lift 30lbs, work in a quick-paced environment.
*Community Living Quinte West is seeking volunteers to spend time with individuals and assist in running weekly bingos.
*Community Living Belleville is looking for assistance. Volunteer duties including support clients on a one to one basis in social settings. You could be a card partner, hockey buddy, or swimming assistant. This commitment is flexible. Volunteers are matched based on common interests.
*Community Learning Alternatives is seeking community-minded volunteers for their Board of Directors. Candidates with interest and/or experience in governance, finance, communications, and human resources are required. Individuals residing in Quinte West, Madoc, Marmora, Tweed and Deseronto are encouraged to apply. Meetings are held the fourth Tuesday of each month from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., summer months excluded.
*Gateway Community Health Centre is seeking volunteers to assist community members in Tweed to complete their income tax and benefit returns. Training is provided for volunteers from Revenue Canada. Computers are provided. Scheduling is very flexible to meet the needs of the volunteers and the clients.
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
