A Belleville man is facing a serious charges following a hostage incident over the weekend.
Belleville Police have announced in a statement, that back on Saturday at 9:40 p.m., officers were called to the west-end of the city with a report of screaming from a residence.
Police arrived on scene and found a man holding a young child. He held a knife, and went back into the residence and locked the door.
Officers were able to get the man out of the home around 10:20 p.m. Belleville Police note that the man was arrested after a brief chase on foot. The child was not harmed.
The suspect, a 36-year-old man from Belleville, has been charged with hostage taking, abandoning a child, resist a peace officer, along with possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, and assault with a weapon.
He was held for a bail hearing.
