
The holiday season is in full swing here in the Quinte region.
If you are a student back at home, with volunteer hours to get checked off your to do list. Now is a great time to get that done, and give back to some of your favourite programs and non-profits.
Volunteer Information Quinte is the organization that can connect you up with those in need of a helping hand.
Here is the VIQ Update for this week:
*The Salvation Army is seeking volunteers to assist with the annual Kettle Campaign. Shifts are two hours. Kettles are located inside various businesses throughout Belleville and Prince Edward County.
*Catherine’s Kitchen is seeking volunteers to monitor donation station boxes. They are set up across a variety of locations in Quinte West. Shifts are two hours. Those under the age of 18 are encouraged to volunteer in pairs. Families are welcome.
*The Community Development Council of Quinte, known as CDC Quinte, is looking for volunteers. They need folks to help distribute Good Food Boxes at their new depot location at Sophiasburgh Centre School in Prince Edward County. The depot started at the end of November. Volunteers distribute the boxes to community members on certain days. You must be able to lift 10 to 15 pounds comfortably.
*Canadian Blood Services is looking for volunteers to support those who roll up their sleeves. Volunteers are needed to support donors before and after they give blood .Orientation and training provided.
*Over in Trenton, The Crown Ridge Long-Term Care Home is looking for volunteers to visit residents, including joining in on a card game.
*Food to Share is seeking volunteer cooks for their cooking sessions. Food to Share holds cooking sessions in Picton, Wellington, Bloomfield, and Sophiasburgh each week. Each session is about 3 hours, and volunteers can sign up for individual sessions or as preferred. Minimal training is required.
*Community Visions and Networking Quinte are looking for volunteers for their Board of Directors. The meeting are hybrid.
*Hospice Prince Edward is seeking volunteers for emotional and practical support for those dealing with a life-threatening illness. Volunteers provide relief to the caregiver and serve adults within Prince Edward County. In-depth training is provided.
*If you are tech savvy, then the Ontario Trails Council could use you. The team needs people to help keep their website up to date, including creating links to events and posting photos.
*Community Care South Hastings is looking for volunteer drivers to escort seniors to and from medical appointments. Volunteers must own their own vehicle. You must provide a clean driving abstract and be able to lift walkers. Mileage is reimbursed and training is provided.
*The Frankford Youth Centre is looking for volunteers for their after-school drop-in centre. Volunteers supervise youth to ensure their safety and compliance with centre rules. The program runs Tuesday to Friday from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
*The Learning Foundation is seeking volunteers for their in-school food program in Centre Hastings. Preparing and serving meals, practicing safe food handling, assisting with food preparation and clean-up ensures students have the nourishment they require to learn. Programs run from September to June, Monday to Friday.
*H.J. McFarland Memorial Home in Picton is seeking volunteers to help set up, clean up, and assist residents to and from activities. Volunteers are also needed for assistance with facilitation of activities. Training is provided.
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
