Volunteer Information Quinte is the organization that can connect you up with those in need of a helping hand.
Here is the VIQ Update for this week:
*Canadian Blood Services is looking for volunteers to support those who roll up their sleeves. Volunteers are needed to support donors before and after they give blood. Orientation and training provided.
*Community Care South Hastings is looking for volunteer drivers to escort seniors to and from medical appointments. Volunteers must own their own vehicle, provide a clean driving abstract, and can lift/fold walkers for clients. Mileage is reimbursed and training is provided.
*The Frankford Youth Centre is looking for volunteers for their after-school youth drop-in center. Volunteers supervise youth to ensure their safety and compliance with rules, The program runs Tuesday-Friday from 3:30 p.m. -5 p.m. or 5 p.m.-7 p.m.
*Links to Learning is seeking volunteers for their tutoring programs. Volunteers assist children with reading following a set curriculum. Tutoring takes place Monday and Tuesday from 4:30 p.m. -6:30 p.m. Training is provided on-site and high school students are welcome.
*The Learning Foundation is seeking volunteers for their in-school food program in Centre Hastings. Preparing and serving meals, and clean-up. The programs run from September to June, Monday to Friday.
*Community Living Quinte West is seeking volunteers to help run bi-weekly bingo games, take clients out for coffee, visit with people in their home, and help with events. Orientation and training provided.
*Gateway Community Health Centre is seeking volunteers the second Tuesday of each month to organize and load good food boxes into clients’ vehicles. Volunteers must be able to lift 30 pounds.
*The Quinte West Youth Centre (QWYC) is seeking volunteers from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. on Tuesday to Friday for their What’s Cooking Program. Volunteers who are passionate about healthy cooking, and youth mentorship are encouraged to apply. QWYC is looking for facilitators to oversee the youth, encourage their skill development, teach basic kitchen skills and complete regular reporting on money being spent and meals being served.
*The Alternatives for Women team are looking for community members to assist helping to maintain programming and buildings. Tasks include childcare, providing transportation within Prince Edward County, sorting and packing donations for clients.
*H.J. McFarland Memorial Home in Picton is seeking volunteers to help set up, clean, and assist residents to and from activities. Training is provided.
*The Open Door Cafe is a free community lunch operated out of Eastminster United Church each Wednesday. They are recruiting volunteers to assist with the clean up of the kitchen/dishes on Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
