Changes to the Ontario Fire Code will be in place as of January 1st.
Under the new rules, carbon monoxide alarms must be installed in more places.
Here’s the breakdown from Belleville Fire and Emergency Services.
• Existing homes – CO alarms now required on every level, not just the storey where people sleep.
• Multi-unit residential buildings – CO alarms required in specific suites, service rooms, and in certain circumstances within the public corridors.
• Care and group living facilities – CO alarms must be installed in the suites and in common areas.
Carbon monoxide is a colourless, odourless, tasteless, and toxic gas.
