It’s a new year and a new start! If one of your new years resolutions is to give back, or just connect more with folks in your area… Volunteering is a great way to do that!
Volunteer Information Quinte is the organization that can connect you up with those in need of a helping hand.
Here is the VIQ Update for this week:
*Pensioners’ Concerned is seeking volunteers to prepare income tax statements for low income individuals, seniors, or physically disabled persons either manually or using a CRA-approved software program. Volunteers should enjoy working with people, have excellent computer and numeracy skills, and a good understanding of the Canadian personal income system. The program runs from mid-February to the end of April, and a training session will be provided.
*Kentwood Park Nursing Home is seeking volunteers to assist residents to play Bingo on Thursday evenings from 6-7:30 pm. An easy and fun way to assist seniors and socialize!
*Community Living Prince Edward is looking for volunteers to support individuals in attending local hockey games. Volunteers support individuals for the full duration of a hockey game and foster a positive relationship at the same time. They are also seeking volunteers to assist with sewing and mending. Individuals who have a talent they can share while also completing some mending projects for those in Community Homes are needed!
*Children’s Safety Village is looking for volunteers for their Capital Campaign Committee. Volunteers will assist with donor and community engagement, event planning, administrative and research support, communications support, and act as an ambassador for the Children’s Safety Village. Through these responsibilities, volunteers support the CSV in achieving its multi-million dollar fundraising goal to relocate, expand, and enhance the “Future Village”.
*The Quinte West Youth Centre is looking for volunteers for cleaning positions at their drop-in building. Duties include sweeping, mopping, dusting, window cleaning, laundry, and more to keep the building clean and inviting for youth.
*The Central Hastings Support Networking Inc. is looking for volunteers to assist with packing and distribution of food boxes at Helping Hands Food Bank in Madoc. Volunteer positions can be a weekly commitment, bi-weekly, or call-in. Shifts are Monday-Thursday at various times.
*Community Care for Central Hastings is looking for volunteers for their Meals on Wheels program in the Marmora, Madoc, Stirling, and Tweed areas. Volunteers will deliver hot or frozen meals on Tuesdays and Thursdays each week, as well as provide a regular social contact and basic health and safety check-in for the client. Delivery drivers and bag pickup individuals are needed.
*Children’s Mental Health Services (CMHS) is seeking volunteers for their Board of Directors. Volunteers should be familiar with a governance-based Board of Directors and non-profit organization, some knowledge, skills, and/or experience in community-based services and attend monthly board meetings. Meetings are held weekday evenings, with some sub-committee work in between.
*Food for Learning – Learning Foundation is looking for volunteers for their nutrition program in the Deseronto/Tyendinaga area. Volunteers prepare and serve breakfast, lunch, and/or snacks to school-aged children. The program runs from Monday to Friday during September-June. You can volunteer once a week or every day depending on what suits your schedule!
*Crown Ridge Place Long Term Care Home is looking for volunteers to assist with portering residents to and from the hair salon Tuesday-Friday each week. Volunteers are required to complete a Criminal Record Check and TB Skin Test.
*Pathways to Independence is seeking volunteers for friendly visiting at their supported homes. Spend a few hours a month to help foster a positive relationship through socializing, conversing, playing games, and/or sharing stories with those living with the affects of an acquired brain injury or with developmental disabilities.
*Strong Start to Reading is looking for volunteers to assist young children in learning essential early reading skills. Volunteers work in a school setting alongside children who are learning to read in the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board. Volunteers are needed for a minimum, once per week for 10-12 weeks during the weekdays.
*The National Airforce Museum in Trenton is seeking volunteers to support educational programs offered by the museum, facilitate programs and activities for school-aged children or cadet squadrons. Volunteer positions are available during weekdays in various increments of time.
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
