Prince Edward County Council held their first meeting of the year, Tuesday.
Mayor Steve Ferguson presented the 2026 budget to council.
After an extended meeting period about the budget last month, the team was walking into the meeting with a proposed 3.59% tax increase.
However, after that decision, the County received the OPP bill, which pushed the tax increase to 4.35%. The OPP asked for a 6% increase to their own bill.
A motion by Councillor Brad Neiman to use reserve funds to cover the OPP raise, instead of raising the tax increase for residents was ultimately passed after a lengthy debate.
Other budget notes for Prince Edward County, include a reduction to the Quinte Conservation fund, and a spare ambulance for this year added on.
