Volunteer Information Quinte is the organization that connects people up with organizations in need of support.
Here is the VIQ update for this week.
*The Alzheimer Society of Hastings-Prince Edward are looking for volunteers to commit to as little as one visit (1.5 hours) per week with one client for 12 weeks at a time. Volunteers work in a client’s home doing recreation activities with them for 1.5 hours at a time. Some examples of activities would be puzzles, word games, baking, walking, games, and social visits.
*The Richmond Retirement Residence is looking for volunteers to run a craft program a few times a month. You have complete creative freedom and can propose all ideas to the Recreation Manager and will be given a budget to buy supplies with. It’s a great time to socialize with seniors and engage. Police record checks are required, but covered by the Residence.
*The Sexual Assault Centre for Quinte & District needs volunteers to fill various positions at the Centre and Paths of Courage. These positions include front desk reception, admin work, Paths of Courage outdoor work, fundraising committee and the DVSARP hospital response program. Training is being held on January 27th, 29th, and 31st.
*The Shannonville Agricultural Society needs volunteers for their breakfast fundraiser on Sunday, February 15th from 8:30 am until 1 pm. Volunteers will assist with dish washing, clearing tables and serving food at the Rec Hall in Melrose.
*Grace Inn Shelter is looking for volunteers to serve late meals on weekday evenings from 9-11:30 pm. Volunteers assist with kitchen prep, plating the food and serving, making coffee and tea, dishes, and interacting with guests. Training is provided onsite.
*Community Visions and Networking Quinte is recruiting volunteers for their Board who can bring a diverse and varied perspective of the diverse populations of the Quinte region. Board members are expected to attend up to 10 meetings per year, in person or by video conferencing, and are expected to review materials in advance of Board meetings and come prepared to ask questions and participate in discussions.
*Community Care for Central Hastings is seeking volunteers for Meals on Wheels delivery in the Marmora and Lake area on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays. Meal pickup is at 11am and is typically completed by 1 pm.
*The Bloomfield & Area Business Association is currently recruiting for their vacant Secretary position. The role involves taking minutes at monthly meetings and completing forwarded minutes to the board chair for review and forwarded to membership via email. Meetings are generally held at 5:15 pm every third Monday of the month at the Bloomfield Town Hall.
*Trenton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary is looking for Emergency Department volunteers. Volunteers offer reassurance and comfort to patients and accompanying guests as appropriate; establish contact with patients and families arriving at the emergency department; and assist staff as requested. Orientation is provided.
*The Canadian Cancer Society – Hastings, Prince Edward County and Brighton need volunteer drivers to drive people living with cancer to and from their cancer related treatment and follow up appointments. Training is provided as well as mileage reimbursement. Volunteers must possess a smoke-free, reliable vehicle and clean driving record.
*Special Olympics Ontario – Belleville and Quinte West are seeking volunteer Community Coordinators. Volunteers will call and preside over all council and executive meetings, encourage volunteer recruitment, work with head coaches, and more. Orientation and training will be provided.
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
