OPP Sergeant Brandon Malcolm died in the line of duty in Cobourg yesterday.
The OPP have confirmed in a statement that just after 5:30 p.m., they responded to a single-vehicle collision, involving a motorcycle, on Highway 401 Eastbound near Burnham Street Street.
Malcom was pronounced dead at the scene.
He joined the OPP in June 2020. Malcolm was a member of the OPP’s Golden Helmets motorcycle team.
OPP Commissioner Thomas Carrique has said that while the investigation is still in the early stages, the OPP do not believe that other vehicles were involved.
Police continue to look for anyone with information about the crash, or those with video footage to come forward and contact the OPP or go through Crime Stoppers.
Highway 401 in Cobourg was closed in both directions for several hours. The highway was completely opened back up as of 3 a.m. today.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford has said that his thoughts are with the late OPP officers family and loved ones.
