It’s a busy time of year full of fundraiser and vendor markets.
Many activities we enjoy in the Quinte region, and rely on, would not be possible without the dedication and determination of countless volunteers. If you are looking to complete your high school volunteer hours ahead of time, or you simply want to give back, then Volunteer Information is the organization to connect with.
Here is the VIQ Update for this week:
*The Loyalist Humane Society is searching for volunteers to support facility maintenance by assisting with general repairs such as insulation, heating and cooling issues, painting, and repairs to floors, doors, and other building needs. Training is provided, and volunteers are typically needed for short-term support over a period of up to 3 months, with weekday evening and weekend daytime availability.
*Quinte SailAbility is looking for volunteers for a dock resurfacing project. Volunteers are needed to assist in removing existing boards, moving materials, installing new boards, and other hands- on support. Shifts will be on weekends in June until the project is completed. Those with experience and access to power tools are encouraged to apply.
*The Hastings Prince Edward Ontario Health Team (HPE OHT) is searching for Patient, Client, and Partner Council members to be paired with a peer mentor. Assignments with the mentor help them better understand the health system, as well as to understand the role of the Patient, Client, or Partner in this capacity. Training and onboarding are provided, but no previous special understanding of the health system is required. Monthly meetings are on weekdays or evenings.
*The Belleville Dragonboat Club is looking for volunteers to support race day operations by transporting race time sheets between finish line judges, the official timekeeper, and the public results board. Responsibilities include posting race results for teams to review and assisting with general event support such as setup, teardown, marshaling, directing traffic, and scorekeeping. Training is provided as needed, and volunteers are needed for a one-day event on August 22 from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
*The Regent Theatre in Picton is looking for volunteers to support a local cultural hub that hosts theatre, film, and live music events. Volunteers assist with a variety of general tasks and “odd jobs” around the theatre, helping ensure smooth operations for performances and events. All volunteers complete orientation and basic training, with additional training provided as needed for more specialized roles.
*The Community Development Council of Quinte is looking for volunteer drivers to help deliver fresh produce through the Good Food Box program. Volunteers assist with loading, unloading, and delivering boxes to depot locations twice a month on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays. Training is provided, though the role is physically active and requires the ability to lift to 50 pounds, along with a Driver’s Abstract and Criminal Record Check.
*Bridge Street United Church is seeking volunteers for kitchen preparation. Volunteers assist with basic kitchen tasks such as food processing and dishwashing on Saturdays from 9:00–10:30 a.m., with additional weekday shifts as needed. This is an on-the-job training role, with commitment flexible for daytime availability
*Girl Guides of Canada is seeking volunteer mentors for girls aged 5–17 in a safe, inclusive environment where they can build confidence, develop life skills, and take part in fun, meaningful activities. As a Guider, you support youth through adventures, skill-building, and community experiences while helping them grow into confident leaders. Volunteers also gain leadership, planning, and communication skills, along with access to training, events, and a strong community network.
