Many of the community events we enjoy every summer, would not be possible without the dedication and support of volunteers.
Volunteer Information Quinte is the organization that matches volunteers with local opportunities.
Here is the VIQ Update for this week:
*Prince Edward County Community Care for Seniors Association is looking for Volunteer Drivers to provide door-to-door transportation for seniors attending medical appointments and essential errands. Volunteers will use their own vehicle to safely transport clients and, in most cases, remain with them to ensure they return home safely. Volunteers may choose to accept local trips, longer-distance travel, or both, and orientation and ongoing support are provided by staff.
*Community Development Council of Quinte is looking for volunteers to assist with the Good Food Box program. Volunteers will help pack food boxes, ensuring items are correctly counted, inspected for quality, and securely prepared for distribution. Volunteers must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and wear closed-toe shoes. Training is provided by the program coordinator, and shifts take place on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month, beginning around 7:30 a.m. and typically wrapping up by 12:30 p.m.
*Quinte Transit is looking for volunteers to sell 50/50 tickets at Brighton Speedway on Saturday evenings. Volunteers will walk through the grandstands selling tickets to spectators. Shifts begin between 5:30 and 6:00 p.m. and typically finish around 10:00 p.m. Training is provided as needed, and transportation can be arranged if required.
*Belleville Dragon Boat Festival is looking for Dock Hand volunteers to help keep participants safe and races running smoothly at the festival on August 22 in Victoria Park. Volunteers will assist paddlers as they board and exit the boats, help secure boats at the dock, and support the safe flow of participants throughout the event. Training and personal flotation devices (PFDs) will be provided as required. Volunteers are needed from approximately 7:00 a.m. for setup, with races beginning at 9:00 a.m. and wrapping up by around 3:00 p.m., followed by event teardown.
*City of Belleville – Quinte Sports & Wellness Centre is looking for Gym/Sports Staff volunteers to help supervise recreational gym programs, including floor hockey, badminton, volleyball, soccer, ultimate frisbee, and open gym sessions. Training is provided by the City of Belleville through a combination of in-person and online sessions. Flexible weekday, evening, and weekend shifts are available, making this an excellent opportunity for anyone who enjoys sports, recreation, and working with the community.
*Victim Services HPE, L&A is looking for On-Site Support Volunteer responders to assist individuals affected by crime and tragedy in our communities. Volunteers provide immediate emotional and practical support at the scene of emergencies, including crisis intervention, assessment, referrals, and connection to community resources. This role involves being on-call to emergency services 24/7 across Hastings, Prince Edward, Lennox & Addington Counties.
*The O’Hara Mill Homestead in Madoc is looking for Event Support Volunteers to assist with upcoming events. Volunteers may help with setup prior to events, as well as cleanup and teardown afterward. On event day, volunteers are required to be dressed in period costume, helping to create an authentic and engaging experience for attendees. Those with special talents such as music, cooking, or crafts are also encouraged to get involved and share their skills as part of the event programming.
