Prince Edward County woman serving time for fraud, dies in prison

Jennifer Simao of Prince Edward County, has died in prison.

Correctional Service Canada announced the death of the 48-year-old last week. Simao died of apparent natural causes at the Grand Valley Institution for Women, in Kitchener.

Simao had been behind bars since June of this year, serving a three-year sentence in connection to several complex fraud cases, that made local headlines.

Justice Robert Horton sentenced Simao in connection to fraud for close to $800,000.

Simao was first charged in 2023, in connection to thefts from her employers, Impacto Protective Products, and The Stations Arts Collective. She then was charged again, in connection to when she used a forged document after stealing around $71,000 from her mother.
