The Regent Theatre in Picton was full last night, to hear what Ernie Margetson, Brad Nieman, and Terry Shortt would do in the mayor’s chair, after decades of experience with municipal government.
Fiscal responsibility, accountability of council, and thoughtful growth were the dominate themes of the 15 questions that were presented to them at the Prince Edward County Chamber of Commerce mayoral session.
Each lifelong county resident had a short window to respond. The event then went into a ten-minute open debate in which the water and wastewater projects, along with the need for more full-time jobs was highlighted.
All three candidates agreed that the county should not be scooped up by a neighbouring municipality, and that they would not use Strong Mayor Powers, adding that it erodes the foundation of democracy and the function of council.
The full debate will be posted on YourTV Quinte’s Youtube Channel, Wednesday.
